Blue light affects your health both physically and psychologically. There's tons of research out there about the negative effects of blue light, but there's also a lot you can do to avoid the harm it causes.

1. EYESTRAIN

If you're getting sick of squinting to read your smartphone or tablet at night, or if you have trouble reading text on your computer during the day, the problem might be eyestrain.

According to experts, blue light from electronic devices disrupts your eyes' natural circadian rhythm, which is the body's natural daily cycle. Artificial light (including blue light) can also interfere with sleep patterns and cause insomnia.


2. SLEEP DISRUPTION

The blue light emitted by the screens of these devices has been shown in a number of studies to suppress the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the body's internal clock and sleep patterns. Blue light is quite disruptive to normal sleep," said Dr. Charles Czeisler, chief of sleep medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "It hits photoreceptors in the eye, which connect to areas of the brain that help govern circadian rhythms."
